Jenkins Leaves Thor 2

December 7, 2011

Monster director Patty Jenkins is NO LONGER calling action on Thor 2  says Heat Vision

The old standby, “creative differences” are being blamed as the reason

Jenkins was to have been the first female director of a Marvel movie.

The move is very sudden since as late as Monday afternoon Jenkins was actively working on the movie. She even talked to the trade on 12/2 in which she discussed her involvement in the project and praised Marvel.

I have a long love of superhero films and I’d been saying over and over again to my agents at CAA that I’d like to do one,” Jenkins said adding “The Marvel guys are so brave in terms of who they choose overall, and I don’t think they had any pause about me being a woman.”

Jenkins told THR she had stayed away from films from the past several years because of her young son but accepted the Thor 2 job gladly. “I met with all the actors and to my surprise, here we are,” she said.

Marvel is said to want to work with Jenkins again in some fashion. According to insiders, the studio is now on the hunt for a new filmmaker and the vacancy is expected to be filled very quickly to meet a release on July 26, 2013.

The sequel is expected to be on a larger scale than the first film with double the amount of Asgardian characters and the inclusion of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) battling more mythical Norse creatures.

The departure is the second for Thor 2; Kenneth Branagh, who directed the first Thor, also left citing “creative differences.”

Marvel had no comment.

Let the speculation on who might sit in the big chair commence…
